In the season of giving, let us be mindful of the waste we produce. While the holidays bring warm memories of parents following children with large garbage bags, it is important to celebrate sustainably. Here are a few ideas on ways to reduce waste while wrapping presents for the holidays. These images were taken by Stephanie of @andersonsontheprairie. She used Acorn to Oak’s Nature Alphabet Flashcards to create gift tags.
Reusable Fabric Wrapping
Reuse old fabric for gift wrap. These can be used and reused for years and years to come! They also add a delightful charm to your holiday wrapping. Furoshiki is a traditional Japanese wrapping cloth for gifts.
Recycled Paper or Newspaper
Repurpose old newspapers, magazines, or brown recycled paper to create custom wrapping paper. You can add personal touches like hand-drawn designs, stamps, or even pressed flowers to add more personability to your gifts.
Use the Original Packaging
Many wooden toys come packaged in beautiful wooden boxes. Add raffia or recycled paper to present the toys as a gift. You could even use the toys themselves to accent your other presents.
Use Biodegradable Gift Wrap
Kraft and unprinted gift wrap can be composted in your garden. Opt for these papers over the gift wrap that is saturated in inks and plastics, that my not be able to biodegrade.
